When operating the SkyFinder directly, you reach for the push button switch on it's side and squeeze the pointer body between thumb and forefinger. This prevents pushing the scope and changing it's aim when pushing the button. One customer suggested the use of a clothespin placed on the pointer, and flicked up or down to switch it. Depending on the type of telescope and bracket location, it may be inconvenient to reach for the pointer switch to operate it. In such cases, the remote kit is a good solution. It allows you to switch the pointer from the most convenient location on (or off) the telescope. The remote kit consists of a plastic ring that slides on the pointer to hold the button down, and an auxiliary battery cap with an attached lead terminating in a soft touch push-button switch mounted on a Velcro pad. The push-button switch on the pointer is in series with the remote switch, electrically speaking, so the pointer switch must be held in the on position for the remote to work. This is why the plastic ring is necessary.
Self-adhesive Velcro patches are provided so that the remote push-button can be removably placed at the most convenient location. I usually supply the remote switch with a three foot length of cable, but I will supply a longer cable on request.
The cost of the remote kit is $30 + shipping. Please add $5 for cables longer than six feet. In some applications, more than one remote switch location may be desired. On a big Dobsonian telescope a switch may be wanted at both the eyepiece and mirror box location. I can provide a second switch located on the cable for $10 additional.
